South China Puts Hi-Tech as Priority

Southwest China's Yunnan Province will put development of the high-tech industry as its top priority in 2002, according to a joint announcement of the provincial Development Planning Commission and Science and Technology Department here Thursday. The expansion covers ten major industries such as agriculture, biological resource exploitation, tobacco, nformation technology and energy resources, demonstrating the province's determination to boost a "green" economy. Sources with the two governmental organs said that the development guide was aimed to make sure various resources are allocated to high-tech fields and to speed up the upgrading of technology used by traditional industries in the province. |
