2002-03-04

An exhibition of Russian scientific and technological projects opened in Harbin Thursday, the first time Russia and China have co-operated in such an exhibition.

Hundreds of high-level non-military scientific and technological exhibits have attracted people from many Chinese businesses. The areas covered by the projects include environmental protection, medicine, mechanical production, communication, energy, agriculture, and new materials.

B. E. Filimonov, the director of the Russian delegation, said that most projects brought to China by his delegation are technically innovative and require a small investment only.

Some Chinese venture capital companies and investment warrant corporations also attended the five-day exhibition and showed interest in financing projects with promising economic prospects.

China, Russia to Enhance Technology Cooperation
China will import Russian expertise and technology while speeding up cooperation in exploring natural resources in Russia.

According to sources with the Heilongjiang provincial government, the northeastern province is mapping out a plan to send Chinese people to explore oil, natural gas and other minerals in Russia.

Sino-Russian Technology Cooperation Center Established
A new Sino-Russian Science and Technology Cooperation Center has been established in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province.

This is the third state-level Sino-Russian cooperation center, which will help Chinese and foreign investment firms to seek, select and recommend High-Tech projects from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
