HK CityU Dedicates to Transformation of Applied Research Results

Hosted by City University of HongKong (CityU), the Applied Research Exhibition and Concurrent themed "Knowledge Creates, Technology Applies" was launched here Friday.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology John Tsang, President of CityU Professor HK Chang, and Deputy President of CityU Professor David Tong.

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor H K Chang said that CityU always had strong affiliation with the business and technology field, which have had positive impacts on the university's academic and research work.

He hoped such events could be held more frequently in the future so as to strengthen the relationship between the university and all circles and to create more cooperating opportunities in the future.

The event aimed to further strengthen the cooperation between CityU and industry in technology commercialization, thereby promoting economic and technological advancement in Hong Kong and the region. Through a variety of programs such as applied research exhibitions, research project demonstrations and seminars, the event showcased the success of the University's academics and technology companies in applied research projects and product commercialization.

It provided a platform for communication, with a target audience of government officials, business leaders and executives,chief technology officers, trade associations and chambers, local and overseas university representatives, and venture capitalists.

The seminar opened with a keynote speech "Commercialization of University Research" by Cookson Professor of Materials of University of Oxford Dr Patrick Grant. Besides, a forum on "Enhancing the Economy of Pearl River Delta Region through AdvancedTechnology Development" was hosted by the vice-president of Business Development and Technology Support of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation Ir S W Cheung.

CityU is committed to the development on applied research. It has been given a competitive edge in developing hi-tech and high added-value products/services through close collaboration with theindustry locally and in Pearl River Delta Region.

A wide range of applied research projects were on display at the exhibition, such as "Organic Electroluminescent Display", "Micropulse Lidar System for Atmospheric Aerosol and Cloud Profiling", "Smartcard Technology", "Development of Lightweight Concrete", "Omega-3 Fatty Acid Production from Marine Micro-organisms", "The Plasma Technology", "Mobile Communication Systems and Base Station Antennas" and "Energy Saving Lighting and DimmingTechnology Solutions" etc.
