Confucius Institute will be officially established in Seoul, capital of Republic of Korea (ROK).

Through cooperation with foreign countries, China's National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (NOCFL) plans to open 100 such colleges globally.

At the inauguration ceremony for the statue of Confucius in Beijing Language and Culture University, Zhang Shengxin, vice education minister said more than 100 such colleges will be established if it is the timing.

Sources with NOCFL said the Confucius colleges overseas will be run through cooperation with foreign colleges and educational institutions, and will mainly be oriented towards learners of Chinese language.

Confucius colleges, which have been globally approved, will be established in Asia, Africa and Europe. Such colleges are not for courses on Confucius' thoughts but for promoting Chinese language worldwide.

China will assign teachers for courses on Chinese language in Confucius institutes overseas.

To date there are nearly 100 million people using or learning Chinese outside China and about 100 countries have courses on Chinese language in educational institutions of various type and level.
