A total of 1.172 mln people have signed up for the national graduate entrance exam to be held on Jan 22 and 23, making the number exceed one million for the first time since the exam was restored in 1978.
Sources from the ministry of education say the number of people who signed up for the graduate entrance exam in 2005 increases 227, 000, representing a rise of 24.1 percent. Of them, 605,000 are new college graduates, representing 51.6 percent of the total number. The universities in China will recruit 316,000 graduates in 2005, 15 percent higher than 2004.
