Beijing-based universities will continue their enrollment expansion this year, with 79,700 new students, an increase of 7.5 percent over 2004.

According to the Beijing education commission, the number of new undergraduate students in Beijing-based universities will reach 40,100 and professional training colleges will take in 39,600 new members in 2005.

There will be a combined rise of nearly 6,000 freshmen over last year, the commission said.
