According to the municipal government, China's Tianjin city has been singled out by the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) among over 100 cites and 18 candidate cities nominated into the Top Seven Intelligent Communities of 2005.

The top seven cities are (alphabetically), Issy-les-Moulineaux of France, Mitaka of Japan, Pirai of Brazil, Singapore, Sunderland of the United Kingdom, Tianjin of China and Toronto of Canada.

It is the first time for a Chinese city to win the award, which was initiated in 1999.
