Beijing to Set Up E-Government to Realize On-line Office Work

Beijing will set up its "E-Government" by the end of the year 2005 to ensure the city to dispose official procedures online, according to a senior official Wednesday.

Lin Wenyi vice mayor of Beijing, made the announcement at a working conference on E-government work held in Beijing.

Lin said that in the first stage of the project, governmental departments will adopt on-line office work for approval and management of enterprises and citizens, and service sector by the end of 2002.

The complete "E-Government" system, including a data base, is scheduled to be finished by the end of 2005 to operate comprehensive on-line office work.

Beijing, the earliest city in China to initiate on-line office work, has established some information networks and databases by the end of 2000, which involve information webs of enterprises, population, taxation and human resources management. Intranet has also become popular among local enterprises and departments now.
