China Sets the Pace in Broadband Technology
2001-01-01
An overall Internet transmission system project£¨OITS£©£¬which is one of the key projects in the State 863 Scheme undertaken by Fenghuo Telecommunication Technology Company £¬ has recently passed the appraisal in Wuhan£¬ therefore making it a breakthrough in China's broadband technology£¬as People's Daily Network reports.

In line with the appraisal£¬ the OITS £¬ having adapted ATM-PON technology in its design is featured with various broadband and narrow-band interfaces and complete functions£¬ and all technology indexes are up to the standard of the 863 Scheme. The attainment of the OITS has filled up the gap in national broadband access field£¬ and reached the world advanced level of 1990s. So far£¬ all 38 items taken up by Fenghuo have passed the appraisal of the State 863 Scheme and been brought into production.

Lu Weiping£¬ president of Fenghuo £¬ explained that the OITS is actually a long-distance access system in transmitting information from Internet nodes to users based on the broadband network. The system£¬ depending on optic fiber network£¬ can transmit high quality information. The broadband network access is nowadays believed to be an international trend. With the fast growth in the multi-media £¬ the Internet and image transmission and so on it is not only necessary to meet the needs of the narrow-band but also the requirements of the broadband network. Therefore£¬ international big companies have set out one after the other to engage in the R&D of broadband access technology. That is how the OITS concept came about.

And now China in the wake of Japan has become one of the few countries in the world having possessed the ATM-PON technology. In addition £¬ it will in turn help speed up the growth of our national fiber network access£¬ boost the infrastructure construction of telecommunication£¬ radio£¬ TV and data transmission to meet the users' needs for broadband network service.
