A first-class neurosurgery research center was established in Shanghai Wednesday, focusing on culturing nerve stem cells in test tubes and other subjects.
The center, named Shanghai Huashan Neurosurgery Group Institute, has attracted Chinese leading researchers in this field including Shi Yuquan and Zhou Liangfu. The researchers have acquired the ability to get rid of tumors deep in the skull while minimizing harm to brain tissue.
Supported by the State Natural Science Fund Committee, the researchers have successfully cultured rat and human nerve stem cells, and will conduct further research on genetic therapy of intracranial tumors. |
