China Has 1,000 Giant Pandas
2001-01-01

The number of giant pandas across China stays at 1,000, according to a nationwide survey.

China has established 14 wildlife protection and breeding centers and more than 400 centers for rare plant species. The Chinese government has carried out a project to protect giant pandas and their habitats, and effectively halted the tendency toward the drop in the number of giant pandas.

So far, China has saved 224 giant pandas from the wild and artificially bred 70 cubs of this endangered species.
