Tang Yi, an 18-year old from east China's Jiangsu Province, celebrated one year of life since his successful heart transplant operation by going to the top of the 342-meter-tall orient pearl television tower here Monday.
Tang, who was born into a farming family, began to suffer from cardiomyopathy when he was fourteen years old. Last April, he received a heart transplant at the No.l People's Hospital of Shanghai.
Enjoying the view of this metropolis at the top of the tower, the tallest building in Shanghai, has been a long-cherished dream of Tang. "I'm so happy to realize this goal," he said.
"I will cherish my life," he said.
After being transported to the top of the tower by an elevator, Tang received a comprehensive physical examination, which showed he has no physical abnormalities. According to local medical experts, more than 70 percent of the transplant patients survive for a period of ten or more years. |
