Second Cloned Cow Was Born in Shandong

Nov. 6 saw another skin-cell cloned cow "Shuang Shuang" being born in Shandong Laiyang Agricultural Institute at 12:08 following the birth of the first cloned cattle "Kang Kang". 


Nov. 6 saw another skin-cell cloned cow "Shuang Shuang" being born in Shandong Laiyang Agricultural Institute at 12:08 following the birth of the first cloned cattle "Kang Kang".

The clone embryos were successfully transplanted to their mothers at the same time. Monday was their common expected date of birth. However, Kang Kang was born one day ahead the time as expected while Shuang Shuang being delivered past the date.

To prevent unexpected occurrence, doctors in the Institute decided to conduct Caesarean operation. According to sources, the operation started at 11:15am, and 12:08 at noontime saw the delivery of Shuang Shuang. Two minutes later she opened her eyes and stood up half an hour later.

Shuang Shuang and Kang Kang are both pure black cows in good health. Weighted on the spot, Shuang Shuang is 36 Kilo and 6 Kilo heavier than Kang Kang.

Cloned from the same skin-cell, the two cows mark that China's clone technology is at the world's advanced level.
