In a 50-hour operation, Chinese surgeons successfully separated 16-month-old Siamese twins Xiang Juan and Xiang Xin, who were born joined at the head.
The operation was carried out by the No.1 Hospital affiliated to the Zhongshan University, in south China's Guangdong Province, from November 3 to 5.
The case is China's first involving Siamese twins joined at the head, and the thirty-sixth such in the world, according to Thursday's Beijing Evening News.
Only two to six percent of Siamese twins are conjoined at the head, statistics show. |
