2001-11-14

Liu told visiting Microsoft Asia president Michael Rawding that the Chinese capital has been carrying out a massive campaign to crackdown pirated softwares.

"Beijing, as the capital of China, should play a leading role in using legal products," Liu vowed.

He revealed that Beijing has issued an order to require every government department to guarantee that the softwares they are using are not pirated ones.

Meanwhile, Beijing has singed an agreement with 80 domestic computer companies that they should install authorized softwares in their computers.

Since July this year, Beijing has seized 270,000 pieces of pirated softwares and VCDs and arrested 223 suspects involving producing and selling them.
