China's first production line of Bscco high-temperature superconductive wire recently started operation here, making China one of the few countries worldwide that can produce the cutting-edge material.
Two hundred kilometers of high-temperature superconductive wireable to handle 43-ampere electric current will be produced annually by the newly launched line. Beijing Yingna Superconductive Technology Company, developer of the line, plans to establish a center with an annual productioncapacity of 1,000 kilometers of the wire within two years. Sources said that resistance of high-temperature superconductive materials approaches to zero at 196 degrees centigrade below zero. Conductivity of superconductive materials is over 100 times that of copper. High-temperature superconductive materials can be used in transportation, environmental protection, medical treatment and other fields. Experts said that development of high-temperature superconductive materials may fundamentally change the global power industry. The value of products related to high-temperature superconductive materials is expected to total 100 billion US dollars by 2010, according to a World Bank report. |
