New Population Geographical Information System Operational

| A population geographical information system has been put into use in Yinchuan, capital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region recently. The system is the second of its kind in China following one in Shanghai, and experts say it is a sign of the progress in the modernization of western China. The system collects together all population data from the city since the third national census, the digital geographic information and the social and economic information about the city, and systematizes them to form a comprehensive and functional data base. The system integrates basic social information including education, medical care, real estate, city planning, employment and disaster relief records to ensure accurate and quick retrieval, classification, collection and analysis and various population-related data in any district of the city. As a result it can offer accurate and scientific data for government administration, civil development planning and enterprise decision-making. |
