China will further its effort to improve the legislative system on technology imports and exports, said Assistant Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC) Wei Jianguo here Friday. At a forum on the newly approved regulation concerning China's technology imports and exports, Wei said China's foreign trade of high-technology has become more and more important for the strategic adjustment of domestic economic structure. Wei said the regulation, to be implemented from January 1, 2002, is the first comprehensive regulation in the field of China's technology trade. According to the MOFTEC, provisions on prohibition and limitation as well as contract registration of technology imports and exports will also be publicized soon in pamphlet form. These publications will be revised and updated as the need arises, MOFTEC sources said. The MOFTEC estimates that with the year-on-year growth rate of 22 percent, China will export 45 billion U.S. dollars of high-technology products in 2001, about 17 percent of the total exports. |
