Doctors recently succeeded in repairing defects in the heart of a nine-month-old male infant in Fuwai Hospital under the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences in Beijing. It was the first time that Chinese doctors have been successful with such an operation, reports Friday's "Beijing Daily". The baby, named "Dandan", was diagnosed as complex congenital cardiac defects. The diagnosis showed that the place of aorta and pulmonary artery was in reverse. On November 6, 2001, professor Wu Yuqing and his colleagues of the Fuwai Hospital took more than six hours to make up the defects by regulating places of atria and aorta. It proved to be a success. The infant has left the hospital for home and has been doing well. |
