China Able to Dispose Unwanted Ammunition in Better Way
2002-01-29
Chinese scientists have made a breakthrough in demilitarizing ammunition, solving an outstanding problem for the armed forces and nearly quadrupling its capacity for handling unwanted ammunition.

Compared with the traditional methods, the new method can dispose of unwanted ammunition in an environmentally friendly, safe and economical way.

Dynamite from the ammunition to be disposed of can also be recycled.

The technology to demilitarize unwanted ammunition was developed by a group of experts with the General Armament Department (GAD) of China's armed forces, known as the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA).

On Monday, the technology was approved by a group of experts, said an official in charge of the GAD's Institute of Ordnance Technology.

China used to dispose of unwanted ammunition by destroying it.
