HK Unveils New High-Tech Traditional Medicine for Asthma

      A new high technology traditional Chinese medicine for bronchial asthma patients developed by the Hong Kong-based Perfect Set Medicine Limited has been put into mass production in South China's Guangdong Province.

  The medicine, named Chuankezhi, is an injection made of the effective parts abstracted from several medical herbs that are good for the disease, and was proved by clinical treatments highlyeffective to bronchial asthma patients, according to Sik Kwan To, president and general manager of the Hong Kong Perfect Set Medicine Ltd.

  Sik Kwan To told Xinhua Sunday that over 2,000 bronchial asthmapatients in China's mainland have so far received treatment with Chuankezhi injection, and clinical researches in 15 hospitals in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu showed that can confront inflammatory reaction of the patients who suffered from asthma andameliorate inflammation of their air ways.

  Clinical researches also showed that the injection was highly effective to over 88 percent of patients who received the treatment, To said.

  According to To, the injection, honored with the title of the Second-Class National New Chinese Medicine by China's State Drug Administration, was the first high technology traditional Chinese medicine produced by a local company since the Hong Kong government initiated the move to promote modernization of traditional Chinese medicine.

  "It is a good example for using advanced technology to produce new traditional Chinese medicine, and it also paced the way for further medicinal cooperation between the mainland and Hong Kong,"said Shen Ziyin, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor with Shanghai Huashan Hospital, who has been engagedthe research of treatment of asthma with Traditional Chinese medicine for over a decade.

  Medical experts here believed that there is a rise in incidenceof asthma in recent years, particularly in children, because of air pollution and the increasing sources of chemical allergy. Statistics showed that the number of asthma patients in china is estimated to jump up to over 25 million, and there are a total 150people who are diagnosed with asthma.
