Participants at a forum on the wireless local area network (WLAN) Thursday urged Hong Kong companies to take advantage of the WLAN technology to enhance their productivity. Speaking at the forum, director of the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) W C Keung, pointed out that by providing real-time information anywhere within an organization or in public places, the WLAN technology can help enterprises increase productivity and improve services. He called on Hong Kong companies to make good use of the technology. Quoting a report by the InfoTech in the United States, Keung noted the WLAN market is projected at 4.4 billion U.S. dollars in 2005. Topics covered in the forum included WLAN security, its integration with 3G handsets, and the role of mobile computing in wireless applications. The one-day forum was organized by the DigiHall 21 of the HKPC and sopnsored by Cisco Systems Limited. |
