China to Cooperate With Developed Countries in Information Industry: Premier
2002-04-27
China will step up cooperation in the information industry with developed countries to promote the sector's development, said Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji here Friday.

Zhu is in Boao, on the central eastern coast of south China's Hainan Province, attending the first annual conference of Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) which opened here Friday morning.

China's information industry had been developing at a surprisingly fast pace in recent years. The country's total number of fixed telephone line and mobile phone subscribers added up to 350 million, surpassing that of the United States, said the Premier.

"However, in developing the information industry, there is still a great gap between China and developed countries in terms of quality and core technology," said Zhu.

He added that China had worked out plans for better cooperation with developed countries in information technology.
