Chinese doctors have succeeded in removing a cyst of the seminal vesicle for a patient without a laparotomy. With a video feeler probing into the patient's abdominal cavity, doctors saw clearly what the cyst was like from a TV screen while doing the operation in this capital of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The cut was only 1.5 centimeters long, and the patient was able to walk by himself only six hours after the operation. He had had difficulty in urination for one year before the tumor was found in the seminal vesicle, said Liang Jianbo, the doctor who performed the operation. This was the first time Chinese doctors had removed a cyst of the seminal vesicle with the help of a eritoneoscope, according to the hospital, the People's Hospital of Guangxi. The disease is rare in China, and less than 20 cases have been reported so far. A traditional laparotomy, which involves in a bigger cut and a slower recovery, could also bring about sexual impotence. |
