China Performs World's First Celoscope Prostate Operation
2002-03-22
The world's first prostate hyperplasia excision operation conducted under a celoscope has been performed successfully by surgeons at a hospital in southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Surgeons at the No. 1 Hospital of Guangxi Medical University first made a 2.5-cm incision in the abdomen of the patient, and then inserted a micro-camera into the metastasis area.

With the help of the camera, the excision operation was done more accurately with very small surgical devices put into the incision to cut the hyperplasia into small pieces.

The operation was able to shorten the patient's recovery period and reduce the pain. Traditional surgery often leaves a scar 10-12 cm long, after causing heavy bleeding.

Prostate hyperplasia is commonly seen among senior men with 40 percent of males aged between 51 to 60 suffering from this complaint.
