Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has succeeded in the propagation technique through embryo transplantation as a head of local-bred cattle gave birth to six strong female black-and-white calves at the Chuangwei Dairy Plant in Baotou city. China has jointed the world's front-runners in that field. The embryo of male dairy cow has a XX pair of sex chromosome and female XY. With the help of specific probe, the sex of an embryo can be identified before transplantation. The experiment in Baotou city, making use of foreign productive cows, is aimed for local cattle to give birth to productive descendents of foreign breed. In the experiment, embryos were first separated for examination and the cattle were transplanted with female embryos. Nine month later, 99 percent of the cows produced female calves as expected. Experts from Beijing Anbo Embryo Biotech Center, China Agricultural University and a Canadian genetics center transplanted embryos into 108 cows in three times and later 56 of which got pregnant. The ratio of successful cases is 52 percent, 7 percentage points higher than the country¡¯s regulation. Now the six calves are growing strong with characteristics all in accordance with those of productive dairy cows. |
