As a university of 102 years old, Southwest University (SWU) is honored as one of the “211 Project” universities under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education of China. With its famous gardenly campus of about 1,500 acres, SWU is located at the foot of Jinyun Mountain, a national scenic spot, in Beibei District of the Chongqing Municipality.
SWU takes the lead in the research of silkworm genome in the world and enjoys a good fame in China for its studies in education, psychology and agriculture. At present, the university provides opportunities of study within such fields as philosophy, economics, law, education, psychology, liberal and fine arts, history, sciences, agriculture, engineering, medicine and business management, covering 42 first-level academic disciplines. SWU offers 11 postdoctoral programs, 66 doctoral programs, 159 programs for master's degrees and 4 programs for professional master's degrees. Among the disciplines, there are 5 key national disciplines, 9 first-level national disciplines for doctoral education, 22 first-level national disciplines for graduate education, and 35 of them are key provincial disciplines.
SWU has a faculty of 2,600 teachers and researchers, among whom there are 400 full professors, 870 associate professors, and 700 advisors for doctor’s and master’s degree candidates. The university has granted graduation to more than 200,000 graduates, and has established friendly and steady ties of cooperation with more than 20 overseas universities and institutes.
