The Chinese government will take measures to improve food safety in schools.

Ministry of Education official Yang Guiren says the ministry wants to eliminate food poisoning cases in schools.

Approaches include providing training to the staff in charge of school meals, establishing reporting system of public health events and enhancing awareness and ability of the students to protect themselves.

In 2004, six people were killed in food poisoning cases in schools.
