CERNET2 Backbone and Usenet

CERNET2 adopts a two-layer hierarchy consisting of backbone and usenet, with the former with the pure IPv6 protocol.
The CERNET2 backbone is based on the high-speed transmission network of CERNET, which links the CERNET2 core nodes in Beijng, Shanghai, Guangzhou and other seventeen cities at a speed of 2.5-10 Gbps. The network center of CERNET2 is located in Tsinghua University, Beijing.

The CERNET2 usenet is a trial network for the research of colleges, universities and research institutions. Adopting the IPv6 protocol, it accesses the CERNET2 core nodes through high-speed MAN (Metropolitan Area Network), optical fiber connection or high-speed distance line. Peking University, Tsinghua University and other 200 famous colleges and universities will become the first batch of CERNET2 users.

CERNET2 Core Node

GigaPoP, core node of CERNET will be set up in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and other seventeen cities, each capable of providing 1～10Gbps IPv6 high-speed access services for more than ten users. In contrast, the Beijing core node can provide such services for more than 30 users.

CNGI-6IX, National/International Internet Center

CNGI-6IX, the national/international NGI exchange center has been established in Tsinghua University, Beijing. It will provide 1～10Gbps interconnection for NGI in the country, and 45-155 Mbps interconnection for NGI in North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific Region, as well as other countries and regions.
