In May 2004, supported by MoST and MoE, Tsinghua University, as the representative of CERNET joined the TEIN2 project.
In TEIN2 project, (1) Beijing and Hong Kong came into being the PoPs of TEIN2 Backbone (there are total three PoPs: Beijing, Hong Kong and Singapore). Beijing will interconnect with Europe by a direct 622M high-speed link. (2)Network Research Center of Tsinghua University won the bidding, becoming the Management and Operation Center of TEIN2 backbone (TEIN2 NOC). The office of TEIN2 NOC will be established at Hong Kong. It is the first time that Chinese academic organization is appointed to manage the international internet, which is also the affirmation to China’s ability to manage and operate large scale international academic network.
