"Modern Distance Education" Project Launched

According to a contract of China Education TV Station signed with Xinnuo Satellite Communication Co. Ltd. on April 28, the TV station will transmit modern distance education programs by communication satellite Ku frequency transmitter. This represents the formal launching of "Modern Distance Education" project in China. "Modern Distance Education" is a key project among those of the 21st Century Education Invigorating Plan approved by the State Council. With China's education, scientific research computer network, satellite TV education as the basis, it will form an open education network and build an education system. To achieve this goal, China will renovate its current satellite education network and transform c frequency analog signal to one-way videocast to ku frequency satellite TV education. A change will be made to unitary college broadcast TV teaching mode. Some key universities can have the chance to give lessons on TV. Qinghua University, Beijing University, Beijing Posts and Telecommunications University, Zhejiang University, Hunan University have been made the first batch of those approved by the Ministry of Education as pilot of distance education. Still there will be an increased number of universities in the wake of these. To meet the demand for western development, a distance education poverty-relief project will be inaugurated to help poor areas with distance education infrastructure, education resource and teaching training in China. |
