China to Increase College Enrollees to 1.8 Million
2001-01-01
Authoritative sources from the Ministry of Education (MOE) say that China will in the coming semester increase its college enrollment to 1.8 million, 200,000 more over last year, to show an average matriculating rate of 49 %. Of the 1.8 million enrollees, there will be an increased number of students from provinces of Western China, with an increased matriculating rate at over 30%.

MOE officials say that China will relax its entrance restrictions on age and demand on a two-year seniority of service by enrollees with an education of special schooling and graduating students with an education of special, technical and vocational schooling. The upper age ceiling for students demanding regular higher education is to be set at age of 25. Necessary stipulations have also been set by MOE for rule of law to be practiced in the country's oncoming college enrollment and entrance examinations going to be held in China.
