China-made Cross-country Car Reaches International Standards
2001-11-22

A new type of cross-country car, made in China and brand-named Liebao, or "cheetah", successfully passed a strict bumping test in a state testing center in north China, says today's People's Daily.

It shows that China has reached the international standards in making cross-country vehicles in terms of technological quality and safety performance.

Two cross-country models, the CFA 2030A and CJY 6470E, produced by the Hunan Changfeng Group based in central China's Hunan Province, passed the national bumping test at the national automobile quality supervision and testing center in Tianjin Municipality, north China.

According to the deputy chief engineer in charge of the test, the models' airbags can pop up in no more than 0.02 seconds, no doors open and no fuel leaks. Following the bump, the vehicles' doors can be opened easily without the use of any special equipment, and crash dummies in the cars were able to "escape" or be rescued by others efficiently from the restraint system that protects drivers and passengers from injuries.
