Co-sponsored by Ministry of Education, Ministry of Information Industry, related departments under Ministry of Personnel and Kingsoft Company, November 18 saw the activity for promoting the use of genuine software being held in Chinese universities. This time, Kingsoft Company launched its WPSOffice teacher's version and student's version,according to today's Peopledaily.com. 

 The Largest Activity Ever Held for Promoting Genuine Software

It is the first time, and also the largest scale that the activity was ever held for publicizing and promoting genuine software since China joins WTO. The activity aims at cultivating public awareness of using genuine software, and it also provides low-price software for cracking down pirated one.

   According to related departments, school informationization construction has been advancing very quickly since the Ministry of Education carried out the " Schools-Link-Schools Project" in 2000. But during the process, some main problems remained unsolved, for example, education software do not match with hardware. Many schools are lack of suitable software, especially the kind of applicable software with education characteristics, resulting in hardware device failing to get sufficient utility. Although related departments have been vigorously promoting teachers to use computer in teaching and testing on computer, it is still hard to have it carried out.

WPSOffice Teacher's Version and Student's Version Launched

   The WPSOffice teacher's version provides various symbols, formulas, methods for photo processing for mathematics, English, Chinese and other subjects, the software can be easily used for editing tests, for calculating scores and for slide making. It can not only meet teaching needs from primary schools to colleges, but also supports online exam. The student version is developed with functions for making study plan, making school schedule and for writing essay, making greeting card and also a rich data of symbols and diagrams.

   So far, nearly 60 percent of China's computers in the education field have installed WPS software and some 20 provinces have listed WPS as their teaching material. Ministry of Personnel also listed WPSOffice as an important mode for computer application test and has it added into the national computer grade test for application.

   Present at the activity were more than 400 college leaders after they attended the Forum for China's Digital Education with 10 universities pinpointed as the first spots for promoting the activity.
